| Abstract
|
| “Shenbushi”(the failure of shen to command)was first recorded in Su Wen:Tangye Laolilun:“Why is it that when the physical form is exhausted and the blood depleted, therapeutic efforts fail to take effect? QI Bo replied:Because the shen fails to command.”The indicates that“Shenbushi”refers to a state characterized by disordered movement of ying-nutrient qi and wei-defensive qi,dysfunction of the zang-fu organs, and decline of bodily function. By inference,“Shenshi”(shen commanding)denotes the process by which the body’s reparative capacity is restored and physiological function is reconstructed through Chinese medication, acupuncture and moxibustion,daoyin,physician-patient communication, and other interventions. On basis, the author proposes the theory of shen commanding:by“regulating and unblocking the shen mechanism”,the body’s ordered physiological state is re-established;by“eliciting shen responsiveness”,the body’s capacity to respond is activated;by further “promoting shen commanding”,immune regulation,self-repair,and resistance to disease are restored;and ultimately, normal physiological function is recovered, namely,“restoring shen function”. |
