Abstract
The different underlying thinking principles of different medical systems lead to differences in disease recognition and treatment. However, with the advancement of scientific research and the updating of theories, the complexity of the human body has become an important issue that any medical system must face. This is the blind spot of reductionist medicine, and it is also the main problem addressed by system science. Many theories of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)embody the idea of naive system theory. Therefore,it is of great significance to apply the basic principles and research methods of systematics to study the theories of TCM and the complex characteristics of the human body. This article interprets the qi,blood and water theory of TCM from the basic principles of system theory:organicity principle, functionality principle, orderliness principle, and self-organization principle. It is proposed that the interaction and physiological characteristics of qi,blood and water serve as the guarantee of the organism’s organicity;the abnormal manifestations of qi,blood and water reflect the connotation of the body’s functionality principle;the pathological process of disease is closely related to the disruption of the orderliness of qi,blood and water;and the key to disease treatment lies in restoring the body’s selforganization through regulating qi,activating blood, and promoting diuresis.
