Abstract
[Objective] To observe the clinical efficacy of Qiaoweiyang acupuncture combined with taping therapy in the treatment of wind-cold type idiopathic peripheral facial paralysis and its influence on the levels of serum IL-6 and TNF-α. [Methods] A total of 120 patients with wind-cold type idiopathic peripheral facial paralysis were randomly divided into a control group and an acupuncture-taping group. Both groups received basic treatment(hormones, neurotrophic agents, antiviral drugs and rehabilitation training)and Qiaoweiyang acupuncture, while the acupuncture-taping group was additionally given taping therapy, with a course of 3 weeks. The h-b grading, facial disability index(FDI)scores, traditional chinese medicine(TCM)symptom scores and serum IL-6,TNF-α levels of the two groups before and after treatment were compared to evaluate the curative effect and record adverse reactions. [Results] Comparison of clinical efficacy between the two groups:the effective rate of the acupuncture-taping group reached 89.83%,and that of the control group was 74.14%,indicating that the curative effect of the acupuncture-taping group was significantly better than that of the control group(P<0.05). Changes of scale scores in the two groups:after treatment, the H-B grading of both groups decreased, and the FDI scores(functional and psychosocial)increased;there were statistically significant differences in the intra-group comparisons before and after treatment(P<0.05). After treatment, the H-B grading of the acupuncture-taping group was lower, and the improvement of FDI scores was greater, with statistically significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05),suggesting that the acupuncture-taping group had more advantages in improving facial nerve function and the degree of facial disability. After treatment, the serum IL-6 and TNF-α levels of both groups decreased, with statistically significant differences in intra-group comparisons(P<0.05). The decrease in the acupuncture-taping group was more significant, and there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). The more obvious the decrease of inflammatory factor levels, the better the curative effect, suggesting a negative correlation between inflammatory factors and curative effect. Safety evaluation:the adverse reactions of both groups were mild, and did not affect subsequent treatment after treatment. [Conclusion] Qiaoweiyang acupuncture combined with taping therapy can significantly improve the clinical efficacy in the treatment of wind-cold type idiopathic peripheral facial paralysis, which can more effectively reduce H-B grading, increase facial FDI scores, and significantly decrease the levels of serum IL-6,TNF-α and other inflammatory factors. This combined scheme can effectively improve the facial nerve function and clinical symptoms of patients, shorten the treatment course, with mild adverse reactions and good safety.
